Cubbon Park
Cubbon Park, established in 1870 by Sir Mark Cubbon, is a 300-acre green oasis in the heart of Bangalore that functions as the city's central lung. Home to over 6,000 trees including century-old rain trees, towering bamboo groves, and majestic mahogany avenues, the park is a biodiversity hotspot within an urban setting. It houses several important institutions: the Seshadri Iyer Memorial Library (a stunning red building), the Government Aquarium, the High Court, and multiple museums. The 15-acre 'active zone' near the bandstand is popular for morning yoga, tai chi, and open-air reading clubs. Vehicles are restricted on Sundays and public holidays, transforming the park into a car-free paradise for cyclists, joggers, and families. With its Gothic-style buildings, statue-lined avenues, and dense canopy providing 5–8°C cooler temperatures than surrounding areas, Cubbon Park is where Bangalore truly earns its Garden City title.
