About BR Hills Wildlife Sanctuary
BR Hills (Biligiri Rangaswamy Temple Wildlife Sanctuary) occupies a remarkable ecological niche as the meeting point of the Western and Eastern Ghats, creating a unique biodiversity bridge. The sanctuary spans 540 sq km of dry deciduous to semi-evergreen forest across undulating hills. This transitional zone supports species from both mountain systems — Malabar giant squirrels alongside four-horned antelopes. The ancient Biligiri Rangaswamy Temple at the hilltop provides a spiritual anchor within the wilderness. The Soliga tribal community has lived within these forests for centuries and their traditional knowledge is integrated into conservation here. Jeep safaris through the sanctuary offer chances to spot elephants, leopards, and occasionally tigers. The K. Gudi wilderness camp (run by JLR) provides a structured safari experience.
