About Dubare Elephant Camp
Dubare Elephant Camp, located on the banks of the Cauvery River near Kushalnagar in Coorg, is one of Karnataka's most popular wildlife interaction experiences. The camp has historically been a training center for wild elephants captured through the traditional Khedda method (now discontinued). Today, visitors can interact with captive elephants — bathing them in the river, feeding them, and learning about elephant behavior and conservation from mahouts. Reaching the camp involves a scenic coracle ride across the Cauvery. While the experience is with captive elephants rather than wild ones, it provides a unique up-close encounter with these gentle giants. The camp is managed by the Karnataka Forest Department and Jungle Lodges and Resorts.
