About Madhugiri
Madhugiri boasts the second largest monolith in Asia (after Savandurga) and features one of the most challenging fort treks near Bangalore. The hill fort was built during the Vijayanagara Empire and later modified by various rulers. The trek passes through seven stone gateways, each marking a defensive perimeter of the fort, before reaching the summit where a ruined citadel and watchtower stand. The final section requires scrambling over smooth rock with the help of iron railings. From the top, the massive monolith provides unobstructed 360-degree views of the flat Deccan landscape stretching to the horizon.
