About the Waterfall
At approximately 90 kilometres from Bangalore, Chunchi Falls represents a dramatic geological feature of the Arkavati River. The water drops approximately 100 feet through a series of rock terraces into a deep gorge. The naming is rooted in tribal folklore, credited to a couple named Chuncha and Chunchi. The upstream Mekedatu Dam has altered steady flow, making the fall highly seasonal. The trek is adventurous but risky, particularly the final descent over smooth granite boulders that become treacherous when wet.
