Freedom Park
Freedom Park occupies the site of the former Bangalore Central Jail, which was converted into a public park in 2008 to commemorate India's freedom struggle. The park preserves parts of the original jail structure including watchtowers, cell blocks, and the main gate as a museum documenting the prison's history and the freedom fighters who were incarcerated there. The 22-acre space features an open-air amphitheatre, designated zones for protests and public gatherings (making it Bangalore's equivalent of Delhi's Jantar Mantar), walking paths, and manicured lawns. The park is open 24/7 and has become a popular venue for political demonstrations, cultural events, and everyday recreation. Located near Majestic and the Vidhana Soudha, Freedom Park sees a constant flow of visitors from tourists exploring the heritage district to office workers taking lunch breaks.
