About the Beach
Gokarna Beach (also called Main Beach or Town Beach) is the primary beach of Gokarna town, stretching from the sacred Mahabaleshwar Temple area to the south. This is where pilgrims perform rituals and immerse offerings in the sea, making it spiritually significant. The wide, long stretch of sand is perfect for evening walks, kite flying, and watching local fishing boats come in. Unlike the more backpacker-oriented beaches to the south, Gokarna Beach has a distinctly Indian town-beach character with families, vendors, and local activity. The sunset views with the temple town silhouette are spectacular.
