About Srikalahasti Temple
The Srikalahasti Temple represents the element of Wind (Vayu) among the Pancha Bhoota Stalas. Located on the banks of the Swarnamukhi river, it is the only temple in India that remains open during solar and lunar eclipses, as it is believed to be protected by the 'Rahu-Ketu' deities. The temple is famous for the Rahu-Ketu Sarpa Dosha pooja, which attracts thousands of devotees daily. The legend says a spider (Sri), serpent (Kala), and elephant (Hasti) worshipped Shiva here — giving the temple its name. The inner sanctum's lamp flame flickers without any wind, demonstrating the 'Vayu' element.
