About the Waterfall
Mekedatu, meaning 'goat's crossing' in Kannada, is a deep gorge where the Kaveri River is forced through a narrow gap in the rocks. While not a traditional vertical waterfall, the rushing water through the narrow gorge creates a spectacular sight. The location is extremely popular for its river crossings, coracle rides, and the scenic drive through Kanakpura. Best visited post-monsoon when the water level is moderate — during peak monsoon, the currents are dangerously strong.
